Spring flower craft

Its time to start taking down my Winter decorations from our nature seasons tree and making some for Spring. I saw this idea on Pinterest and traced the source back to Hostess with the Mostess. She made a hydrangea pomander and I have to say hers looks significantly better than my attempt at an Alium so I'd pop over and take a look at her one here. 

For my attempt I bought a small Petal Shape Hole Punch and some Double Sided Origami Paper. I punched out a huge number of petals using up one sheet of paper. They are really small petals and thus really fiddly to handle.

Then using dress makers pins I attached the petals to a Polystyrene ball. If you look at the original idea they use rather fancy pins but I wasn't willing to pay the cash for them. However if I was a bit more dedicated to my craft I could have gone over the tips with pink or lilac nail polish.
This whole process took a lot longer than I'd anticipated and my original plan of making five to hang on my tree rapidly vanished after week two of pinning! (OK slight exaggeration but it did take a long time) Also the more pins that are in the ball the harder it is to find a clean run for the next pin so by the time I'd got to the top I was taking pins out and repositioning every time.

With the last petal I affixed a loop of ribbon - again if I was more dedicated I should have made it green for the stem but I had silver so that is what I used. The final thing still looks pretty cute, and it does look like the Aliums I was going for.
