Pirate Ship Birthday Cake
(Goblin is 36 months)
Goblin turns three this month so we had a pirate themed birthday party for him. You can read about it here. As a result of hiring a soft play centre all we had to do was make our costumes and a cake. I took costume duty and handed the cake batten to the baker of the family - the Hublet.
Hublet used two packets of Betty Croker Devil's Food Cake mix (we work on the theory that if the mix tastes delicious what's the point in baking from scratch) to make one loaf shaped cake and one big square. He chopped the square in half and put one rectangle in front of the loaf shaped cake to make the keel. The other rectangle was cut in half with the square end at the back of the ship and an arrow shaped bit for the front. He placed the two triangles in the middle of the deck to support the masts.
Then he covered the whole thing in chocolate butter icing and decorated it with chocolate fingers, fudge fingers for the cannons and curlywurly for the balustrade around the top deck.
We used a happylands queen as the figure head and three lego pirates as the crew.
Artistic Hublet decorated the sales and stuck them on skewers and into the cake. And we put stickers on the tin foil base with fish and desert islands on them.
The end result was pretty awesome and very tasty.
And now to the linky
