A love of animals

(Goblin is 35 months)
Goblin has always had a love of and fascination for animals. I think it helps that Hublet and I like animals. We have a cat and Nanny has a dog so Goblin has been around animals since he was tiny.
I guess it also helps that I love taking him on outings to see animals. We have season tickets to the local zoo and I am always on the look out to find new farms and animal attractions. My latest discovery is a small sheep dairy farm in Essex called Boydells. Its open every afternoon for kids to get up close and personal with the animals.
And that is certainly what Goblin likes to do. Hublet and I are careful to teach him safety tips like don't walk round the back of a horse; hold your hands flat when feeding animals (he learnt that the hard way after being nipped by a goat who was a bit too eager to eat the grass he was offering); always wash your hands after touching animals and before eating; always ask an owner before petting a dog because some dogs don't like kids. Hublet was also rather horrified that he had to explain that you shouldn't try and touch a cats bum!
But even animals take a back seat if there are toy tractors to play with.

I'm sharing this on

  2. Hahaha - that is hilarious that Hublet had to explain not to touch a cats bum!!! Gorgeous post though, and photos. Loving animals and spending time around them is so important. Wish we had some farms to visit around here! Must try to find one :-)

  7. Beautiful pictures! I'm sure having animals in our lives teaches these little people so much about being kind, loving and attentive. Some of my favourite quiet moments are watching my girls feed, pet and be attentive to our cats - such tender moments.

  8. Oh, what a fun place to go!! I love it!! My daughter is still a bit afraid of animals (even with two cats at home), but she loves to see them and watch them from a safe distance. This year she got a bit more daring and actually would touch some. Thank you for sharing at Happy Family Times!!
